Do You Have the Same Blind-Spot as Blockbuster? | Fast Company

The missing "blind spot" for BB is also customer service...it's bad and Netflix is great in all of the BB blind bad spots. Defective DVD? At BB, "what did YOU do to it?" At Netflix "we are getting a replacement right out to you." A charge from BB for a DVD you returned but they can't find?...well good luck because they believe you are a liar and a thief. At Netflix, no problem...we will credit your account.

Einstein's Bagel Club

Einstein1
On a recent visit to Einstein's I was handed this bagel shaped punch card....it's a little complicated because on your way to the big pay off which is a Free Baker's Dozen you can get smaller pay off such as a bagel at visit #3 or you can get "an extra chomp". I think they really mean punch or maybe even bite because their name for this thing is "Bite Choice" Bagel Club. The chomp comes from left field doesn't it?
Einstein2
The problem is, I don't really like to participate in punch clubs because #1 In general, I don't like to carry these things around with me...especially paper ones and especially bagel size ones. Where would I put the it....too big for a wallet. Oh it folds to business card size. Even so...#2 I don't like to carry things around like this for places that I don't come to 11 times in a year. Sure, I love Einstein's and when I worked near an Einstein's I ate there a lot. Now I don't. And #3, The person who handed it to me, kind of shoved it at me as if she didn't like it much either and read me what it said about eventually getting free bagels as if she had never seen it before.

I probably would have thrown it in the bag where it would have gone in the trash when the bag of bagels was empty except I had a professional interest in looking closer...there was a little Facebook icon on the back and an invitation to become a fan on Facebook.

In my opinion....the Facebook icon was a lost opportunity. How much more effective the whole thing would have been if the server had known a little bit about the bagel punch card and asked me if I wanted to participate plus even if I had said no, she could have asked me if I was a Facebook fan and if I was enticed me with an extra punch. If I wasn't a fan, maybe an extra bagel right then if I said I would become a fan.The punch card is a loyalty/reward vehicle...Facebook can do that too. Or it needs to do something, doesn't it? WHY should I become a fan on Facebook Einstein?

More Facebook Changes

Over the weekend, Facebook announces that boxes (which I always thought was an odd name for what it was) are going away. Richard MacManus @ ReadWriteWeb explains it here.

Richard and Marshall Kirkpatrick are doing an awesome job keeping up with the Facebook announcements da jour and providing interpretation and analysis.
